Katonda Afaayo Foundation

Last Updated: May 2025

At Katonda Afaayo Foundation, we are committed to healing the land, heart, and future of Uganda and to treating the people who support that mission with the same care and
transparency. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect
when you visit our website (katondaafaayofoundation.org), why we collect it,
and how we protect it. Please read it carefully.

1. Who We Are

Katonda Afaayo Foundation is a Ugandan non-profit organisation working across climate education, youth empowerment, and environmental restoration. Our website address is:

https://katondaafaayofoundation.org

For questions about this policy, you may contact us at info@katondaafaayofoundation.org or by phone at +256 772 643 704.

2. What Data We Collect and Why

We only collect personal information that is necessary to operate our website and serve our community. Below is a breakdown of each context in which data is collected.

a) Comments and Contributions

When you leave a comment on our site, we collect the information you submit in the comment form (your name, email address, and any optional website URL), along with your IP address and browser information. This helps us identify and filter spam.

If you have a Gravatar account, a one-way anonymised version of your email address (a “hash”) may be shared with the Gravatar service to retrieve your profile picture. Gravatar’s own privacy policy applies to that interaction and is available at automattic.com/privacy.
Once your comment is approved, your chosen display name and profile photo will be publicly visible alongside your comment.

b) Images and Media Uploads

If you upload images to this website, please be aware that image files can contain embedded location data (known as EXIF GPS data). Other visitors may be able to download your uploaded images and extract that location information from them. We recommend removing
location metadata from images before uploading.

c) Cookies

Our website uses cookies — small text files stored in your browser — for the following specific purposes:

Comment convenience: If you opt in when leaving a comment, we save your name, email, and website URL in cookies so you do not have to re-enter them next time. These cookies last for one year.

Browser compatibility check: When you visit our login page, a temporary cookie is set to confirm your browser accepts cookies. This cookie holds no personal data and is deleted when you close your browser.

Login sessions: When you log in to our site, we set cookies to keep your session active and remember your display preferences. Login cookies last two days; display preference cookies last one year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login session is extended to two weeks. All login cookies are cleared when you log out.

Article editing: If you publish or edit content on the site, a temporary cookie records the ID of the post you last edited. It contains no persona data and expires after one day.

d) Embedded Content from Other Websites

Some of our pages may include embedded content from third-party platforms for example, videos, maps, or social media posts. When you interact with that embedded content, those
third-party websites may collect data about you, use their own cookies, and track
your interactions, exactly as if you had visited their site directly. If you are logged in to any of those services, they may link your interaction with your account on their platform.

3. How We Share Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We share data only in the limited circumstances described below:

Password resets: If you request a password reset, the reset email sent to you will include your IP address for security verification purposes.

Spam filtering: Comments submitted on our site may be reviewed by an automated spam detection service to protect the integrity of our community space.

Gravatar profile images: As described above, anonymised email hashes may be shared with Gravatar solely for the purpose of retrieving your profile picture.

4. How Long We Retain Your Data

We retain your data only as longas is necessary and proportionate to its purpose:

Comments: Comments and associated metadata are kept indefinitely. This allows us to recognise and approve follow-up comments from the same person automatically, rather than holding every response in a moderation queue.

Registered users: If you register an account on our site, the personal information in your profile is stored for as long as your account remains active. You may view, update, or delete your profile information at any time (note: usernames cannot be changed). Website administrators may also access and edit that information for administrative purposes.

5. Your Rights Over Your Data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you have the right to:

Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you, in a portable format.

Request that we erase your personal data from our
systems.

Please note that we may be required to retain certain
information for administrative, legal, or security reasons even after an erasure request.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at info@katondaafaayofoundation.org.

6. Where Your Data Is Sent

Comment data submitted on this website may be passed to an external automated spam detection service for review. No other personal data is routinely transferred outside of our website infrastructure.

7. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the personal data we hold. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. We encourage you to contact us immediately at info@katondaafaayofoundation.org if you have anyconcerns about how your data is being handled.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal obligations. When we do, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
